Burson-Marsteller UK, a subsidiary of WPP, has entered into an agreement with the Gates Cambridge Trust to promote the Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme.

The programme awards scholarships to applicants wishing to pursue a postgraduate degree at Cambridge University. The highly competitive – only 90 are granted each year – full-cost scholarships are awarded for postgraduate studies in any field but applicants must be based outside the UK.

Burson-Marsteller is responsible for building global awareness of the programme, raising its profile and positioning the scholarship as the most prestigious and influential of its kind. The agency will do this through its network of 67 offices and 74 affiliate offices operating in 98 countries across six continents.

“Brand awareness is a central part of the Gates Cambridge Trust’s goal to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others and we look forward to working with them to increase the profile of this ground-breaking programme,” said Charlotte Budd, director of Burson-Marsteller UK, who will be leading the team.

Founded in 2000 following a donation of $210m to the University of Cambridge from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the programme aims to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others. So far, the programme has supported more than 1,000 Gates Scholars from 94 countries.
