GSK to restructure comms unit

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced plans to restructure its internal comms team and will review its roster of PR agencies.
The decision follows a three-month review led by vice president of global communications and consumer healthcare, Leslie McGibbon.
GSK has not yet outlined a timescale for when this review will be undertaken or completed but the process is likely to result in vacancies on some of its accounts.
Discussing the impending changes, McGibbon, who joined GSK last year, said the aim of the review was to ‘significantly up-weight’ the communications teams.
Part of the exercise will include the creation of 20 new in-house positions for staff specialising in brand PR, and a shift in strategy to focus more on social media as well as paid-for media content.
The in-house positions, which will be split between the US and the UK, will be across two divisions: one will focus on internal engagement, and the other will comprise brand specialists.
